With spring finally here and warm weather peeking out of the clouds, I've been
influenced by lots of summery things. Here are
some of my current inspirations:
Cage Back Dresses – When the weather finally warms up and summer is right around the corner, I always find myself sorting through summer clothes, disappointed that they’re all too revealing. But this spring I’ve noticed a new trend: cage back dresses! Having a semi-open back on a dress has all the sex appeal of a low-cut top but none of the added awkwardness. It’s a great way to show some skin without feeling overexposed.
Good Covers of Pop Songs – You already heard me gush about my new favorite band, Pomplamoose, but lately all I’ve been listening to are awesome covers of famous songs. Pomplamoose has some great ones, but Lissie from Illinois has my new favorite: an amazing live cover of Bad Romance by Lady Gaga. And in a funny twist, I found this quirky version of Poker Face by Lady Gaga and I love it! I love different artists' takes on the same songs.
Gladiator Sandals – They might have debuted a few seasons ago, but gladiator sandals are definitely still in! I love the slightly rough edge they add to a sweet summer dress, and the multiple straps mean they’re comfortable enough to wear on long summer walks. I love the studs on this pair from Go Jane and the ankle straps from the Sam Edelman pair.
Alice in Wonderland-Inspired Fashion – I have yet to see Tim Burton’s film (I’ve heard mixed reviews) but I’m loving some of the Gothic Lolita takes on the classic Alice in Wonderland garb. Gothic Lolita fashion is a darker take on the traditional girliness of Lolita fashion, with Victorian-inspired dark colors, ruffles, and head to toe gear. Though I doubt I’d ever wear the full look at once, it’s fun to pull out different pieces of the outfit, like dark ruffled socks with mary-janes, lace gloves or dramatic black fascinators.
